Daytona Registered Nurse Jeaneane Forsyth Named 2009 Interim HealthCare Nurse of the Year

Nurses in Toledo, Ohio, and Farmington, Conn., Also Recognized

Sunrise, Fla., May 12, 2009 - Jeaneane Forsyth, a registered nurse from Daytona, Fla., has been named the 2009 Interim HealthCare Nurse of the Year. Interim is the nation's largest combined home health care and medical staffing provider, employing more than 75,000 health care workers who serve more than 50,000 people each day. The first runner-up for this year's award was Cindy Morris, R.N., of Toledo, Ohio, and an honorable mention for special recognition was awarded to Donna Gianoni, R.N., of Farmington, Conn.

Through Interim HealthCare's Daytona Beach office, Forsyth is the nurse manager of the medical clinic at the Volusia County Juvenile Detention Center. She is credited with improving the lives of her patients and inspiring her colleagues through new initiatives that have brought efficiency, warmth and team spirit to her workplace.

Whether she's instituting a new process for tracking medical data, training colleagues, or educating young people on health and safety, Forsyth gives everything her all. But she doesn't stop there. She keeps the clinic extremely organized and makes sure it is a pleasant and comfortable place for young patients through personal touches such as decorations each holiday.

Forsyth's keen eye and quick response recently benefited a young accident victim who came into the clinic with a head injury and then became unresponsive. Forsyth took immediate action, keeping the patient safe and breathing until paramedics arrived. He was subsequently diagnosed with a subdural hematoma, a head injury that tears blood vessels, and had emergency surgery. After the surgery, the patient's mother called to thank Forsyth for saving her son's life.

Cindy Morris of Interim HealthCare of Toledo, first runner-up, was nominated by her team for embodying the characteristics of the home care nurse of the future. A clinical supervisor, Morris develops nurse training programs, reviews patient charts, and continuously cultivates new skills and knowledge. She was saluted for her multidisciplinary, inclusive, patient-centered approach. She helps patients transition seamlessly when they move from one provider to another and helps other healthcare professionals and patients alike by participating in doctor's appointments whenever needed.

Donna Gianoni, R.N., of Interim HealthCare's office in Farmington, Conn., received an honorable mention for the care she provides patients with severe handicaps. All of Gianoni's patients reside in an independent living complex and receive the utmost care and respect. Gianoni also creates personal calendars reflecting each of her patient's personal interests and is said to be better than a mechanic at securing parts and fixing wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment. She volunteers for the group's annual fundraiser and in every way demonstrates her philosophy that every person deserves success and a happy life.

"Jeaneane, Cindy and Donna are three stunning examples of the talent, compassion and exceptional performance that represent the best in nursing today. We salute the wonderful accomplishments and dedication of all of our nurses, who generously give not only their skills and knowledge but of themselves each and every day," said Kathleen Gilmartin, R.N., CEO and President of Interim HealthCare.

Nominations for the 2009 Nurse of the Year award were accepted from Interim HealthCare's 312 franchise locations across the country. Winners were chosen by an interdisciplinary panel of clinicians who independently rated each nominee on the characteristics of integrity, innovation, financial responsibility and compassion.
